Busy morning in the Canso Vessel Traffic Zone.



Ship movements in the Strait area began about 0800 hrs with the depature of the crude oil tanker African Spirit departing the Nustar Berth One. with APA pilot Capt. Jim MacKelvie on the bridge.
   At the same time the coal topoffs were concluding out in the deepwater achorages of Chedabucto Bay and the Cape Lotus with pilot Capt. Evan MacDonald and the CSL Acadian with pilot Capt. Mike Langdon taking them out to begin their trips to sea..
     At the Martin Marietta Materials loading dock in Auklds Cove  APA pilot Capt. Rick Hanlon took the self-unloading bulker Caroline Oldendorff away from the dock assisted by the tug Svitzer Bedford with Capt. Vernon Turple at the helm..The Caroline oldendorff was bound for Port Manatee Florida with 59,600 metric toones of construction aggregate.
Shortly after the Caroline Oldendorff got underway another self-unloading bulker steamed up to the quarry.The Pioneer with APA Capt. Chuck MacDonald on the bridge directed the tugs Point Valiant and Point Chebucto in the docking manouver.
