Tankers on the move today.

The empty TK tanker Asian Spiit ,79,668 gwtdeparted the Nustar Ocean Berth One about 1255h this afternoon after discharging its cargo of crude oil..Sister tanker Australian Spirit 62213 gwt was inbound to the same dock..

The tugs Point Chebucto,Point Valiant and Svitzer Bedford  all assisted with the undocking of the Asian Spirit and then the point valiant was dispatched to Chedabucto Bay to assist the  Csl Acadian  mating up of the cape sized bulk carrier Cape Athea at  the outer anchorage to do a coal topoff.
      The Australian Spirit was turned in the stream and assisted to the Nustar Dock by the tugs Point Chebucto and Svitzer Bedford.

New Tug

Superport Marine had their official naming ceremony for their newbuild tug "Strait Raven"last week.She is a very impressive looking tug!

Sunny weather and hopefully busier days

Bright sunshine greeted the 9891 dwt. cargo vessel Nordanhav which arrived at the inner pilot station about 1230 hours and headed in tho the Port Hawkesbury paper dock .APA pilot on board was Capt. Evan MacDonald of Port Hood.Its last trip to this port was back on the 16th of January and the air was quite a bit colder.
       The pilot boat Strait Eagle was in service today.The Nordanhav sailed from the the port of Barcarena with a cargo of clay for the papermill.

        Alongside the Strait Superport Corp'n  at Mulgrave the buoy tender Earl Greys' crew  was busy handling large buoys.

Bulk carrier Antwerpen at the quarry dock .

The 41,100 dwt bulk carrier Antwerpen arrived at the south pilot station late Saturday night and was later docked at the Martin Marietta Materials loading dock portside to.She will be loading about 37,150 tons of construction aggregate and will depart for Port Manatee in Florida.

     Prior to coming to the Strait the vessel had delivered a load of coal to Sydney.

Eagle Boston inbound.

    APA pilot Elias Dorey was on the bridge of the inbound crude oil tanker Eagle Boston .The 99,328 dwt vessel was eventually  docked at the Nustar outside berth.

      I managed to get a photo of it from Janvrins Island just as the snow was starting over Chedabucto Bay .

M/V CSL Acadian and M/V Sivota

I apologize for the late timing of my very 'punctual', first blog posting. More to come in due time..

We start our story from the cape-size, bulk carrier M/V 'Sivota'.

 

The 292 M vessel has come here from a USA load port with a partial cargo of coal. She is too large to load to full capacity in the States, and has come to our port in order to load a remaining cargo of coal.
Pilot boat 'Strait Falcon' can also be seen here awaiting the disembarking pilot from 'CSL Acadian'.

The smaller, (yet very large) M/V 'CSL Acadian' is seen coming-about in back ground. She has come to transfer more coal into the 'Sivota' so that vessel can sail to Asian destinations and discharge the coal. We also see the 'Strait Rider', my faithful taxi/tow service.

The Point Valiant was on a busy schedule today. Here the tug can be seen laying into the 'CSL Acadian' holding both vessels in position -

 - While Captains S. Kalyuzhny of CSL Acadian, and S. MacDonald of Atlantic Pilotage maneuver this 245 M vessel along side the 'Sivota'.

This operation took approximately 30 hours to complete and both vessels sailed away in the end. 'Sivota' is on her way to Asia while the 'CSL Acadian' and her hard working crew is on the way back to the USA for another load of coal, for yet another cape-size vessel.

Fundy Leader & Friends

Things were busy on the waterfront in Arichat today. The day started out with the Fundy Leader arriving for an 8 am offload.She was then followed by 2 Halibut boats. Logan & Morgan and Benji & Sisters from the south shore of Nova Scotia. This was  their first ever visit to Arichat. Their unexpected visit was due to weather condidtions following our weekend storm.
