Coooold One!!

Fishing Vessel Fundy Leader made an unexpected visit to Arichat today.They were not having great weather and with the impending weather she came in to offload, and head to Petit De Grat  until weather Improves. She is one of the most modern around today.

Here are a couple of fishing Vessels high and dry for the winter.From left we have Canadian Coast Guard vessel OPILIO , DR. GRANNY and SEA TRIAL.

Another cold February morning and a skim of ice covers part of the Strait.While out shooting photos I caught the Atlantic Fir and crew making ready for a trip to Mulgrave for water and then off to St. John N.B.Also noted some activity in the yard at Superport Marine where the crew is readying the newly built tug Strait Raven for launch.Mighty fine looking vessel.

Things are remaining quiet in Petit De Grat. The New Brunswick shrimp fleet is wintering here again this year.The reason for this is that the harbor in Caraquet freezes over and they cannot get out for shrimping here in March.It also saves them on fuel costs.Here we see Dominic Francis, Lady Gloria & Marc-Andre Guillaume alongside the wharf in Petit De Grat.

These 2 vessels are owned by Eskasoni and are in lay-up until the crab season starts sometime in April. The Charlie Joe Dennis is their newest vessel.She was delivered last year and rumor has it they are ordering another new one this year.The one astern of Charlie Joe Dennis is the Sanwel Paul built by Samson Enterprises.

I was in the area as well today and snapped this shot after the Alice Oldendorff was all secure.I was literally following in Jacks tracks HaHa.

A bright and sunny yet cold day greeted the bulk carrier 48,000 dwt bulk carrier Alice Oldendorff as it headed to the Martin Marietta Materials Quarry Dock to load gravel.

   APA pilot Elias Dorey was on the bridge and the tugs Svitzer Bedford with Capt. Jean Gallant at the helm and the Point Valiant under the command of Capt. Jerry Maltby all provided a seamless docking operation.I am hoping to get some photos as the loaded vessel departs.

The rough weather was the cause of a few ship delays  on Thursday the 31st of January but clear skies and diminished winds allowed the resumption of vessel traffic .First in was the crude oil tanker SCF Baikal which was docked at the Nustar Ocean berth One assisted by the tugs Point Valiant,Atlantic Fir and Svitzer Bedford.The Atlantic Fir was in the area to temporarily replace the Point Chebucto which is out of the area on refit..As the tanker was inbound caught a glimpse of the offshore surf clam vessel Ocean Endurance heading out to sea from Mulgrave.

       Shortly after the tanker was docked the tugs Point Valiant and Svitzer Bedford were tasked to assist in the docking of the self unloading bulk carrier Harmen Oldendorff at the Martin Marietta Quarry Dock in Aulds Cove to load some construction aggregate.
